Dental Fillings in Miami
What is Dental Fillings and what do we do at Flores Dental Group?
Fillings are the simplest corrective option we have to resolve a cavity that is still in its early stages before they intensify to the point they necessitate crowns or root canals. As the name implies, a filling is a material that fills in the hole left in a tooth, whether by a cavity or cracking or chipping. This prevents food from getting into the tooth and lets the tooth function normally. At Flores Dental Group we use only resin composite.
When a tooth becomes broken, cracked, or chipped, the resulting hole or missing tooth portion or enamel must be dealt with in order for the overall tooth to function properly and to prevent bacteria from getting in and causing further problems. A dental filling is a material that fills in the places the tooth portion is missing and restores the overall tooth to good working order and appearance.
The benefits of getting a dental filling include:
Restoring tooth function: Dental fillings can help restore the function of a decayed or damaged tooth. Once the decay is removed and the filling is placed, the tooth can function as normal.
Preventing further decay: Filling a cavity can help prevent further decay and damage to the tooth, as well as prevent the need for more extensive and expensive dental treatments in the future.
Improved appearance: Dental fillings can be made to match the color of your teeth, providing a more natural appearance and improving the overall aesthetics of your smile.
Long-lasting results: With proper oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, dental fillings can last for many years, providing long-lasting results and protection for your teeth.
Frequently Asked Questions about Dental Fillings in Miami
Dental fillings are materials used to fill cavities or holes in teeth that have been caused by decay or damage. The filling material helps to restore the tooth's structure and function.
Dental fillings can be made of various materials including amalgam (a mixture of metals), composite resin (a tooth-colored material), porcelain, or gold.
Getting a dental filling should not be painful as the area around the tooth will be numbed with local anesthesia before the procedure. However, some people may experience some discomfort or sensitivity for a few days after the procedure.
The lifespan of a dental filling can vary depending on the material used and how well it is cared for. Amalgam fillings can last for 10-15 years or more, while composite fillings can last for 5-10 years. Proper oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups can help extend the lifespan of a filling.
To place a dental filling, the decayed or damaged part of the tooth is first removed and the remaining tooth structure is cleaned and prepared. The filling material is then placed in the prepared area and shaped to match the natural contours of the tooth. Finally, the filling is hardened using a special light.
Yes, dental fillings can be replaced if they become worn, damaged, or decayed. Your dentist will determine if a filling needs to be replaced based on a dental exam and X-rays.
Dental fillings do not require any special care, but it is important to practice good oral hygiene to maintain their longevity. This includes brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting the dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings.
